The Knight’s hall of the Bezděz castle

The Bezděz castle was built by the king Přemysl Otakar II. in the 13th century, and it has become one of the strongest fortresses in the land of Bohemia. During history, it was owned by many kings as well as members of the nobility. However, the castle got damaged by the Prussian army in 1778 and since then it has begun to decay. In the 19th century, the aristocratic family of Valdštejn initiated the first big restoration of the castle. The vault of  the knight’s hall was rebuilt in the neogothic style. From this time comes the illusory painting imitating sandstone in different colours, which today got restored by our restorers.
